Half A Billion Years

Go to the Beginning, Here! Go Back to 400,000,000 Years: Here! Onward to 600,000,000 years: Here! Smaller Tail: 67 Spike-proof Armor: 6 Slimy Surface: 41 Elastic Surface: 81 Sticky Mucus: 56 No rolls above 90, applying highest (Elastic Surface) THE TIME: 500,000,000 Years BBB THE PLACE: The Open Ocean, with very chilled temps Lifeform Survival: 88% The Situation: We've reached half a billion years. The waters have become severely turbulent with geological upheval. Lots of bombardment from space and a lot of rocky meteors smashing into the ocean. Nothing for a major extinction event, but you're getting churned every which way. A few things are tried in order to deal with the new entrants in the arena of life. A smaller tail to assist with positioning after use of the water jets only works slightly better than what it was previously but it wasn't enough to make much of a difference. X. Neutralis Thromalius tried evolving a spike-proof shell, but the spikes on opponents got thicker and stronger FAST. A slimy surface to help in escaping didn't work when A. Snillix Sorteii evolves little spines to help hold everything on the end of its tentacles. You're still faster than it is, but it's getting faster all the time. Failing the slimy surface, a sticky mucus instead was attempted, and while it does gunk up the inner workings of both A. Snillix Sorteii and P. Munni Selvon, they learned to metabolize it and use it for energy production. P. Munni Selvon especially liked the mucus, and it seems it's becoming addicted to it. This will be problematic for it since the evolution was dropped and its source will dry up unless it finds another source.

Since spike proof armor wasn't a success, a variant is tried. X. Neutralis Thromalius evolves an elastic soft shell as opposed to a static hard shell, so when A. Snillix Sorteii tries to impale it, it just gets pushed aside instead. P. Munni Selvon can shred the shell, but it's still too slow to be much of a threat... for now. Finally, the basic predator cell has evolved its venomous barbs to be launchable, attached to tethers of nerves (or what passes for nerves at this level of scale; I'm not a biologist). While they don't have much of an impact on you since you're immune to poison, they ARE making life difficult in that they're eating up all the other meat-matter floating about in the ocean. You're going to need to take the predator cells down a notch somehow, or they'll eat all your food. Pick one of the following three choices: 1) Ascend the waters, escaping the current groups of bacteria? (Tougher opponents, but more food available) 2) Stay where you are, allowing the churning of the ocean to bring you to all corners of the globe? (More sources of food, but more predators) 3) Descend into the deeps, using your stealth to attempt to avoid A. Snillix Sorteii and P. Munni Selvon? (Less food, but then you only deal with basic cells) Onward to 600,000,000 years! Enemy Predator Cells: * Feed on Hydrogen Peroxide (Poison immunity) * Acid Resistant * Acidic, Toxic Blood (+Poison, +Acid) * Launchable Venomous Barbs, attached to tethers/nerves * Agile, can catch you * Great Size (+Strength, +Damage, -Speed) * Cell wall-shattering bite (making Spikes useless)

Evolving Armor Piercing Spikes next turn Danger Level: 4/10 A. Snillix Sorteii * Great Size (++Strength, +Damage, -Speed) * Entangling tentacles w/Gecko-style grip (Holds food immobile) * Hunts X. Neutralis Thromalius specifically * Slow but patient Danger Level: 4/10 and Rising next turn P. Munni Selvon * Huge Hooks, Armor Piercing (+++Damage) * Very slow * Can't catch you, but it does kill the unwary * Attracted to Phosphorus * Metabolises Biological Slime for a speed boost Danger Level: 3/10 but Rising X. Neutralis Thromalius * Protective, Elastic Shell (++Armor, -Speed) * Protective Coloration (+Stealth) * Water Jets (++Speed) * Poison Immunity * High "Willpower" (+Health) * Slow (due to the weight of the tail), not agile at all * Prehensile Tail used like a mace to stun (+Weight, +Damage) * Predatory (Prefers other cells to dead matter) * Moderately Large 68% to Carnivore-ism
